Composition C: A Unique Residential House by Lee Chien Hao

A Sculptural Boundary Divider with Multi-function Cabinets

The inspiration for Composition C came from the owner's musical enthusiasm. Lee Chien Hao aimed to interpret the rhythm and articulation of melody through the design. The application of a parametric algorithm allowed for the modification of the width and length of wooden strips, creating an optical dynamic movement within a static scene.

One of the unique properties of Composition C is the pair of storage units located in the main circulation of the space. These units not only serve as boundary dividers for each area but also function as sculptural prototypes for shaping the original beam. Additionally, they provide multi-function cabinets to meet the domestic demands of daily life.

The realization of Composition C was made possible through the application of a parametric algorithm. This technology allowed for the precise modification of the wooden strips, creating a visual continuity and air ventilation within the space. The integration of form between the storage units and the ceiling adds to the aesthetics of geometry, resulting in a play of light and shadow.

Composition C was completed in Taipei, Taiwan in 2018. The design showcases the creativity and ingenuity of Lee Chien Hao, combining art, architecture, and design to create a unique residential space.

Composition C was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019.
